One of the world’s leading appliance brands has issued a voluntary recall notice on its electric cooktops due to the possibility of an electric shock.

Fisher & Paykel Appliances Australia Pty Ltd has issued a voluntary recall notice on two models of electric cooktops sold in Australia and New Zealand since 2011, which may cause an electrical shock if spilt liquids leak into the electrical components through the cooktop’s control panel and dials. The recall follows a small number of reports of this issue, although there have been no reports of injury.

F&P recall

Fisher & Paykel spokesperson, Matt Orr said that while the need to recall any product is disappointing, the voluntary action is in line with Fisher & Paykel’s commitment to quality and determination to stand by its products 100%.

“Customer satisfaction and safety are our top priorities. We have a zero tolerance for products that do not perform to our high quality standards and waste no time in putting it right.

“We apologise unreservedly to our valued customers who have been affected, and for any inconvenience or disruption this process may cause.”

F&P urges consumers to check their cooktops

The company has advised that the cooktops require a minor internal repair to ensure a failsafe earth and remove the risk. Fisher & Paykel is asking all customers with a potentially affected cooktop to contact the company, and will be promoting the recall online, on social media, through widespread newspaper advertising, via dealer and service networks, and through direct contact with customers where details are available.

The recall applies to model numbers starting with CE604CB, CE604LB or CE905CB; serial number range beginning with 1, 2, 3, 4, BK, BL, BU, BY, EF, EI, ES.

Consumers who have their User Guide can check their model and serial numbers on the sticker on the back cover of the booklet. If not, consumers are urged to visit www.fisherpaykel.com.au /recall or call the dedicated number 1300 023 350 (Mon-Fri 6am-7pm, Sat 7am-2pm AEDT) for assistance.

Where identifying a cooktop proves difficult, a technician will still visit the customer to confirm if the cooktop is included in the recall and therefore needs to be repaired. All visits and repairs will be free of charge.

These cooktops are ceramic glass, with the control panel and dials positioned at the front right. No other models of Fisher & Paykel cooktops – gas, induction, or electric with slide controls – are affected.
