The Narta buying group, which is responsible for over $3 billion of retail turnover, has announced the resignation of its chairman after almost 10 years of service.

John Wipfli held the position since December 2001 and, according to a company statement, he “has decided it is now time for him to step down”.

“John has not taken this decision lightly and has done so knowing that the foundations for the continued success of the Narta Group are ingrained,” said Narta in a statement.

“John will remain on the Narta board and will continue to support the group in his capacity as director.”

Following Wipfli’s decision, the Narta board unanimously voted managing director, Kay Spencer, to the position as executive chairman, which she will assume in addition to her current role.

“This ensures the continued guidance of the group, and together with Peter Walker who remains in the position of Deputy Chairman, will ensure the continuity of current strategies.

“The Narta board thanks John for his years of service and commitment on behalf of the Narta members over the last 10 years.”

Michael Jackson has been promoted to the role of chief operation officer and will oversee the daily operation and growth of the group in his new role.
