Pioneer has released the new X-SMC3 Sound Station, which features Apple’s AirPlay technology. This unit allows users to “connect, share and control all of their audio in the home without all the fuss”.

Although the release says that “no docking [is] required”, the SoundStation does have an iDock so you can playback tunes from a non compatible model, such as an iPod Classic.

“Position the SoundStation in your favourite living space and it will wirelessly connect and playback your iTunes music library, regardless of whether it’s stored on a PC, MAC, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in the same home,” instructed Pioneer.

There’s built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, DLNA and access to internet radio. Inputs include USB and Auxiliary ports, while there’s AM/FM radio to complete the experience.

To make the most of the SoundStation, Pioneer recommends downloading its new Air Jam app, for either iOS or Android, which allows users to control the unit from their smartphone or tablet.

The X-SMC3 SoundStation is RRP $599.
