Last night, Nokia held the launch event for its new flagship Lumia 925 smartphone with a keen focus on low-light photography. Guests were given test models to play with, and with UV lighting, candlelit tables and glow-painted aerialists performing in the venue, there was plenty to shoot.
We gave the Lumia 925 a test drive and we were very impressed with the results. Having attended plenty of smartphone launches where brands talk up their product's imaging capabilities, this smartphone was actually up to scratch when the lights were down.
Much of that performance came from the image stabilisation – according to Nokia product trainers at the event, the Lumia 925 features miniscule ball bearing-style parts that help to reduce the image blur and noise created by a shaking hand. The result was video that was remarkably still, a lens that could stay open longer to let in more light and some pretty cool low-light photos.
Here are our favourites…
This was one of the dimmest parts of the room on the night, thought it appeared bright once shot.
Under a blacklight, this colourful perspex dress (all 16 kilograms of it) was positively stunning.
Nokia recruited performers from Slide Bar on Oxford Street to do aerial performances at the launch. Here, Paige Walker is suspended from the silks.
Using the action shot mode, we captured the movement of the aerialist's fabric.
Performer Steven Watson, suspended from a neon umbrella.
Action shot mode in action again – we were able to choose the frames of movement that we wanted to include in the final image.
What's an image gallery without a night shot of the Harbour Bridge?
