According to a statement from Vodafone Hutchison Australia, Berroeta has been responsible for overseeing more 3,500 employees in his current role.

Under Mr Berroeta’s leadership Vodafone Romania has delivered growth and improved profitability in a highly competitive market and tough economic conditions. He led Vodafone Romania’s successful bid to renew and acquire a 15 year spectrum license and established the company as the first mobile carrier to offer LTE services.

Berroeta will bring 20 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry with him to Vodafone Australia; prior to his tenure in Romania, Berroeta headed up Vodafone’s operations in Malta and Spain, and he has also worked in major operations in the United States.

Speaking about Berroeta’s appointment, outgoing CEO Bill Morrow said he had the global experience to drive the company forward:

Inaki is a great fit for the local team and his diverse background places him well to take Vodafone through to the next phase of its 3 year turnaround. His appointment demonstrates Vodafone Group’s and Hutchison Whampoa’s commitment to developing talent globally and to putting the right people in the right places.

Morrow’s appointment to NBN Co was announced in December 2013.
