The 2024 Australian Good Design Awards have showcased the pinnacle of design excellence in a grand ceremony at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney, attended by over 1,000 guests from design, architecture, engineering and business sectors.

This year’s theme, ‘The Design Effect’ underscored the crucial role design plays in shaping better products, services, spaces, and experiences while driving the transition to a more sustainable, less carbon-intensive future.

The Australian Good Design Awards highlighted how design not only enhances functionality and aesthetics but also contributes significantly to business success and societal advancement.

Good Design Australia managing director, Rachel Wye said, “This year’s Awards reflect the profound ripple effects that exceptional design can have on people, place and planet. The projects honoured in these Awards exemplify how thoughtful design can drive meaningful change, not only enhancing user experiences and the way people interact with the world, but also contributing to a more sustainable and more prosperous future.

Best In Class: Samsung Less Microfiber Filter

The Samsung Less Microfiber Filter was the only product in the domestic appliance category to receive a Best In Class – Good Design Award. The Less Microfiber Filter is an external washing machine filter that can be used with select Samsung front load washing and combo washers and dryers. It helps capture up to 98% of microfibers released during a standard wash cycle.

Gold Winner: AEG SaphirMatt Induction Cooktop

The AEG SaphirMatt was recognised as a Gold Winner – Good Design Award. The AEG SaphirMatt induction cooktops feature a matte black, anti-fingerprint glass finish to blend seamlessly with modern kitchens, while offering superior scratch resistance compared to conventional ceramic glass cooktops. The DoubleBridge feature connects cooking zones for larger or irregularly shaped cookware. Hob2Hood technology synchronises the cooktop and rangehood, automating fan and light control.

Gold Winner: Everdure KILN Outdoor Pizza Oven

The Everdure KILN outdoor pizza oven range was recognised as a Gold Winner – Good Design Award. The pizza oven integrates seamlessly into outdoor spaces, while offering rapid heating and even cooking. It can reach high temperatures quickly, cook a 16-inch pizza in under two minutes, and handle various dishes. The design enhances user convenience and energy efficiency, fitting common benchtops and featuring a sleek, contemporary look.

Worldwide Appliances, distributor of Everdure, marketing manager, Daniel Bertuccio, praised the Shriro design and development team for their exceptional creativity and innovation in developing the KILN range. “The team’s ability to push boundaries and deliver such a unique product is a testament to their dedication and expertise. Good Design Award winners:

Anker

Anker has received a Good Design Award for six products – the eufy E20 three-in-one robot vacuum and eufy X10 Pro Omni in the domestic appliance category, and the Anker Maggo foldable 3-in-1 wireless charger, Anker Solix F3800 power station, Anker Solix X1 Series and eufy Solocam S340 in the consumer electronics category.

The eufy E20 (above) is the world’s first product that seamlessly transitions between a robot vacuum and a cordless stick vacuum, allowing simultaneous use. It serves as a robot vacuum for everyday use. When immediate spot cleaning is required, it can transform into a cordless stick vacuum cleaner. The eufy X10 Omni (below) is an automated floor sweeper boasting 10N high-pressure cleaning, auto-mop washing, and dust box emptying. Its 8,000Pa fan ensures thorough cleaning on all surfaces, while the floating comb efficiently removes hair from the brush.

The Anker MagGo Foldable 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station offers an innovative wireless charging experience with an ultra-compact design, which allows users to freely adjust the angle of their devices.

The Anker SOLIX F3800 is the world’s first portable power station to support whole-house electricity cycle, supporting emergency power backup. The design emphasises portability with a three-handle design and suitcase-style pull bar and wheeIs, plus a vertical standing design for space efficiency. 

The Anker SOLIX X1 AC Coupled System provides home energy storage system. It saves electricity costs by converting solar energy into home power. The system readies homes for significant weather that causes grid outages. When a future weather event is detected, the battery charges to full.

The eufy SoloCam S340 is the first outdoor dual-camera pan-and-tilt security camera with a solar-powered battery. It offers a 360-degree view without blind spots and delivers 3K resolution clarity from 15 metres away.

Bertazzoni

The Bertazzoni Professional Series Air-Tec Cooker, the world’s first three-in-one appliance, received a Good Design Award. The cooker features an induction cooktop with multi-zones, along with integrated downdraft ventilation system which adjusts automatically to the power setting of the induction zones, completed with an 11-function electric oven.

De’Longhi

The De’Longhi Rivelia fully automatic coffee machine received a Good Design Award. This coffee machine is designed to empower novice users by streamlining the process of coffee-making into a simple and enjoyable experience. The Bean Switch System lets users explore different flavours by switching between two interchangeable bean hoppers.

De’Longhi brand manager, Wilson Kwong said, “With Rivelia, we challenged ourselves to redefine what a fully automatic coffee machine could be through the power of design. It’s been amazing to see the fantastic response from all of our customers, and we’re thrilled to add a Good Design Award to the many accolades Rivelia has won since launching earlier this year.”

ECOVACS

The ECOVACS DEEBOT T30 PRO OMNI received a Good Design Award. The latest model in the line-up introduces 10 key breakthroughs in just 10 months as compared to its T20 predecessor, including innovations in edge-to-edge cleaning, anti-tangle technology, high suction power, and space-saving all-in-one OMNI station.

Electrolux

The Electrolux UltimateCare washing machine, tumble dryer and washer dryer range received a Good Design Award. Built-in intelligence takes the guesswork out of washing. The intuitive SmartSelect Connected UI, Intellidose detergent dosing technology and water-cushion CareDrum work together for perfect cleaning and drying that keeps clothes looking better for longer.

ILVE

The ILVE Panoramagic Black Matt Range Cooker received a Good Design Award. Featuring a double electric oven and seven induction hobs, the cooker blends professional kitchen inspiration with home convenience. Crafted predominantly from steel, the Panoramagic cooker is durable and easy to clean.

ILVE Australia director, Chris Tracey said, “ILVE is honoured to have been awarded the prestigious Good Design Award for the Panoramagic range cooker. The unique style, first introduced in the 60s, has since become one of ILVE’s most iconic product ranges. This marks the third award for the Panoramagic, a confirmation from the design world that ILVE products represent the pinnacle of innovation, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.”

JURA

The JURA J8 Twin fully automatic coffee machine received a Good Design Award. The J8 machine has long been a popular model in JURA’s range but the design team wanted to offer more while maintaining a compact design. The J8 Twin can produce two different coffee blends thanks to two high-performance P.A.G.3+ conical grinders with a choice of 31 coffee specialities. The addition of the Sweet Foam function flavours the milk foam for a subtle sweet note.

Magimix

The Magimix Cocotte slow cooking accessory received a Good Design Award, following previous recognition of the Magimix Cook Expert. Designed to seamlessly integrate with the Magimix Cook Expert, the Cocotte expands the versatility of the thermocooker, offering a premium slow cooking experience that enhances culinary possibilities.

The Magimix Cocotte features durable high-quality materials that ensure even heat distribution, a generous capacity for preparing family-sized portions and a ceramic non-stick surface for easy clean-up. Compatible with the Cook Expert, as well as on all cooktops including induction and the oven, the Cocotte can be used for stews, casseroles, braised meats and more.

Samsung

In addition to being awarded Best In Class for the Samsung Less Micofiber Filter, Samsung received a Good Design Award for six products – the Samsung AI Family Hub fridge and
Samsung Flex Door oven in the domestic appliance category, and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Music Frame and S95D OLED 4K TV in the consumer electronics category.

Samsung’s AI Family Hub French Door refrigerator is a smart kitchen appliance that offers connected and intelligent food experiences, harnessing AI features to help Australians manage meal prep, avoid food waste and shop smarter. With powerful AI, innovative cooking technologies, and increased usability, the Samsung Flex Door Oven with AI Camera is designed to help boost confidence among home chefs.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic delivers powerful performance and holistic wellness insights in a refined and sleek design. With a slimmer bezel, it features a more interactive user interface, a brighter and 20% larger display than the previous edition.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 incorporates an iconic vertically folding design, a front ‘Flex Window’ display that’s almost double the size of its predecessor, and an enhanced camera system.

Samsung’s Music Frame is a standalone speaker that redefines how Australians listen to music and audio in their home. Designed as a picture frame, it delivers premium audio performance while doubling as art that can be fully customised.

Samsung S95D OLED 4K Smart TV sets a new standard in home entertainment with the world’s first OLED TV with Glare Free certification, providing anti-glare technology, coupled with richer contrast, brighter brights and deeper blacks.

Weber

The latest Weber Q (3rd gen) barbecue range received a Good Design Award. The range builds upon two decades of market leadership in the barbecue category. The design journey began in October 2018 with comprehensive market research with Australian consumers. Identifying five key pain points—size, temperature range, ease of use, cleanability, and portability—the team categorised them into two clear design objectives – ‘allow me to do more’ and ‘make my life easier’. The latest Weber Q has been designed by and for Australians and New Zealanders.

The Zip HydroTap Celsius Plus All-In-One and All-In-One Pull-Out received Good Design Awards. The taps combine advanced functionality with a sleek, modern design, offering instant filtered boiling, chilled, and sparkling drinking water, plus hot and cold mixer tap water from a single tap. Both models feature enhanced sparkling water technology and a user-friendly, antimicrobial-protected touchpad. The All-In-One Pull-Out version further elevates the experience with a snag-free pull-out sprayer.
