Monitoring notice posted on website.
The ACCC has posted a notice on its public register signalling a review of a possible $800 million takeover of domestic appliances chain The Good Guys by rival JB Hi-Fi.
In its summary on its public register: http://registers.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1195978/fromItemId/750991, the ACCC said it was aware of media speculation concerning this possible acquisition and is currently monitoring it. A public review will be commenced once the parties provide a submission.
Suzi Copley is the ACCC’s project manager on the matter which commenced on Wednesday, May 25.
Last week ACCC chairman Rod Sims raised concerns about the competitive implications of The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi joining forces.
The Good Guys is also considering a float on the sharemarket in an IPO that would value the business at about $800 million.
