Blink smart home security, an Amazon company, has expanded into Australia and New Zealand, offering a range of smart security cameras boasting up to two years of battery life on two AA batteries.

The launch comes as new local research shows the desire for home security products with over 80% of Australians stating they are willing to invest in home security annually. However, more than two in five (43%) say cost is a barrier, with Australians only willing to invest an average of $300 annually. The new Blink range delivers an affordable solution with prices starting at just $69.

Blink Asia Pacific managing director, Mark Fletcher said, “We know that Australians want to invest in home security products, but cost-of-living pressures are impacting us all. We’re thrilled to launch Blink in Australia and New Zealand, bringing our customers more feature-packed options at incredible value.”

At the core of Blink products is the custom-built proprietary chip designed to save power, extending battery life up to two years for the Blink Outdoor 4 wireless camera, while also enabling smart notifications with features like person detection through on-device computer vision. With person detection, a Blink Subscription Plus Plan feature, notifies users when a person is detected, versus an object or an animal.

The Blink Outdoor 4 is a battery-powered outdoor camera that delivers image quality at 1080p for HD live view, infrared night vision, two-way audio, and a wide field-of-view. The camera also features advanced dual-zone motion detection alerting users to motion more quickly. The Outdoor 4 is available in a one, two, three or five-pack with pricing starting from $149.

Outdoor 4 comes with the Blink Sync Module 2, allowing customers to control up to 10 Blink cameras from the Blink app, as well as view, share, and store motion events locally for no additional fee.

The Sync Module 2 plugs into an electrical outlet and connects to Wi-Fi, and events are stored on a USB drive (sold separately). Clips stored locally will stay until deleted manually. The Sync Module 2 is required for Outdoor 4 but is also available separately for $79.

The Blink Mini 2 is a compact plug-in camera that offers enhanced image quality of 1080p HD live view, a wide field of view, built-in LED spotlight with HD night view in colour, two-way audio, and motion detection. Mini 2’s weather-resistant design makes it suitable for outdoor use when purchased with the Blink Weather Resistant Power Adaptor – sold separately for $19 or as part of a bundle with the Mini 2, starting at $79. The adapter can also be used to provide non-stop power for Blink Outdoor 4.

Alexa customers can use the Alexa Blink Smart Home Skill to connect their Blink cameras to an Echo device and receive alerts, check live view, arm and disarm their camera, and more.

With a Blink subscription plan, customers can save and share clips and view live recordings from their Blink devices in the cloud with unlimited cloud storage for up to 60 days. The subscription plan also provides access to advanced features like person detection, Blink Moments (Plus Plan only), and more.

Customers who purchase a Blink camera will receive a 30-day free trial with two tiers available thereafter – Basic and Plus – starting from $5 and $15 per month respectively.

All privacy settings can be controlled through the Blink app, including the set-up of activity zones, capturing only what they want and excluding areas like a busy street that may surround their property.

Blink devices and accessories are available for purchase in-store exclusively from Bunnings Warehouse and online via the Amazon Australia website.
