Amazon has launched a new line-up of Kindle devices including a reimagined Kindle Scribe, the fastest Kindle Paperwhite to date, a new entry Kindle and the first colour Kindle, coming to Australia in 2025.

New Amazon data shows that Australians are expected to read over three billion pages on their Kindle devices this summer and each customer reads on average, 25,000 pages a year.

Customers love Kindle and are reading on their devices more than ever, according to Amazon Devices country manager for Australia and New Zealand, Patrick Walker.

“With summer just around the corner we know reading will be at all-time high, and our new Kindle line-up has something for everyone. We obsessed over every detail to deliver the best possible experience, and we know Australians will be excited by new features such as 25% faster page turns on the Kindle Paperwhite, a more dynamic and intuitive writing experience on the Kindle Scribe, and fun new colours across the range,” he said.

Kindle Paperwhite

Since its debut in 2012, the Kindle Paperwhite has been the best-selling Kindle, and the new Kindle Paperwhite is the fastest yet with 25% faster page turns. The display uses an oxide thin film transistor which gives it the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle Paperwhite. A larger, 7-inch display is a first for Kindle Paperwhite, and yet it is also the thinnest Paperwhite with up to three months of battery life.

Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof with 16GB of storage and comes in black priced at $299. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32GB of storage, optional wireless charging, and auto-adjusting front light, is available in Metallic Jade (exclusive to Amazon) and Metallic Black for $329.

Kindle

Weighing just 158 grams, the new entry-level Kindle is small enough to fit in one hand or back pocket. It has a 300ppi, glare-free display, now with faster page turns, higher contrast ratio, and a front light that is 25% brighter at max setting – making it as bright as Kindle Paperwhite.

It comes in black and a new Matcha colour, offers weeks of battery life from a single charge, and has 16GB of storage for $199.

Kindle Scribe

The new Kindle Scribe combines the benefits of Kindle with an innovative notetaking device. The 10.2-inch display has new uniform white borders, and the screen has a smooth paper-like texture. Plus, at 300ppi text looks crisp and clear when writing or reading. The premium pen is finely crafted to deliver the right heft and balance, and the new soft-tipped eraser feels like a pencil.

The new Kindle Scribe offers a first-of-its-kind in-book writing experience. With Active Canvas, write thoughts directly in the book. The note becomes part of the page and the book text dynamically flows around it.

Australian customers can pre-order the Kindle Scribe in Tungsten or Metallic Jade (exclusive to Amazon), with prices starting from $649 and shipping from December 5 2024.

Kindle Colorsoft

The Kindle Colorsoft delivers high contrast, fast page turns, an auto-adjusting front-light, and weeks of battery life with the addition of colour that’s vibrant yet easy on the eyes. It uses an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for fast performance and a higher contrast on both colour and black and white content.

Its custom Colorsoft display includes a new light-guide with nitride LEDs that, when combined with custom algorithms, enhances colour and increases brightness. Zoom in on images without pixelating and choose between standard or vibrant colour styles. Kindle Colorsoft comes with wireless charging, up to eight weeks of battery life, and is waterproof. It will be available to Australian customers in 2025.

All Kindle devices come with access to the world’s best e-book store and a two-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited, offering an extensive library of digital books and comics. A monthly membership is available for $13.99 per month.

New accessories include a Matcha fabric cover for the Kindle for $49.95 and new fabric, plant-based leather and premium leather covers in a variety of colours for the new Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition and Kindle Scribe starting from $59.95, plus a new wireless charging stand for Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition for $69.95 (exclusive to Amazon).

The new Kindle devices and accessories are available from leading retailers including JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks, as well as the Amazon Australia website.
