Keith Bowden Electrical, a consumer electronics and appliance retailer and Narta member based in St Marys in South Australia, has gone into administration. This store had been trading since 1965.

"Keith Bowden Electrical has had a very proud history of serving South Australia for 47 years and has always tried to provide a family environment for staff and customers," said a representitive of the business.

"Heather, Graeme and Trevor Bowden are very disappointed that it has become evident that the company cannot continue to trade. It is also clear that there is no prospect of a sale of the business.

"The directors this morning appointed a voluntary administrator, Mr Tim Clifton of Clifton Hall. He will take control of the company immediately."

The spokesperson made it clear that customers who had paid for products but not yet collected them would still have access to these goods.

"There are some customers who have paid for goods but not taken delivery. These goods have been identified and segregated, and it is expected that customers will be able to make arrangements with the administrator to take delivery of the goods.

"There are also some customers with outstanding orders. It is likely that these will not be fulfilled. With only a few exceptions, these customers have not paid deposits, and so will not have lost any money.

"Heather, Graeme and Trevor and their families sincerely thank all customers, both current and past, for supporting the company and making it a well known brand in South Australia."

Just two years ago, Trevor Bowden attributed the longterm success of Keith Bowden Electrical to its association with Narta.

“The power we get through our alliance with Narta allows us to keep up with multi-nationals on price," he said in 2010.

At that time, Bowden was completing a store rebranding in order to maintain pace with the industry.

“The electrical retail industry has undergone immense changes over the last 20 years, especially with the advent of digitalisation and the growing emphasis on energy efficiency, and we wanted an image that which presented us as a modern family business which is moving with the times,” he said at the time..
