High-powered mobile gaming is coming soon, following ASUS’ announcement of the ROG Phone 6 Series as part of its Republic of Gaming brand.
Powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the Android-based ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro are built for performance and visual quality. ASUS claims that the phones’ improved Qualcomm Adreno graphics processor provides more than a 50% improvement than its predecessor, for starters. Both phones brandish a 6.78-inch AMOLED HDR10+ display with a fast refresh rate of 165Hz.
Users can change the refresh rate as needed, too, including 60, 90, 120, 144, and 165Hz configurations. Additionally, the ROG Phone 6 Series Armoury Crate performance manager allows for performance tweaks to suit different types of games. Also providing the grunt needed for high-end mobile gaming is as much as 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM, supported by up to 512GB of internal storage.
From an audio perspective, the ROG Phone 6 Series includes symmetrical forward-firing dual speakers for balanced stereo sound, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack. Each phone is built for long gaming sessions backed by a 6000mAH battery, and a 65-watt HyperCharge for fast recharging.
A Sony IMX766 50 MP main wide-angle camera ensures the ROG Phone 6 Series delivers quality photography as well. It’s accompanied by an ultrawide 13 MP secondary camera, another smaller sensor for macro snaps, and a 12 MP selfie camera.
As for the differences between the Pro and non-Pro phone models? They are nearly identical except for a couple of factors. Firstly, the ROG Phone 6 Pro has a small rear display used for RGB effects and notifications. The other difference is that the base ROG Phone 6’s minimum specs are 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, while the Pro model starts at 512GB and 18GB respectively. The Pro model comes exclusively in Storm White, while the standard ROG Phone 6 also offers Phantom Black as a colour option.
Local pricing and release details are yet to be confirmed, although it’s expected the ROG Phone 6 Series will launch in Australia during August 2022. Various accessories including new ROG earbuds, headphones, gamepad, and the AeroActive Cooler 6 external cooling mount will also launch alongside the phones.
