Breville has this morning recalled a Glass Kettle from its range. The model, BKE260 with the manufacturing codes 1044 to 1425, has been withdrawn from sale has a handle that can loosen or detach from kettle’s body, presenting a risk of injury or scalding.

Consumers can find the model number and manufacturing code of their Breville kettle by looking at a label stuck to underside of jug (see diagram below).

This kettle was sold nationally between November 2010 and August 2014. Breville says the defect that has led to this recall was because the kettle was “not…manufactured to Breville’s material specification”.

“Although the product still meets the design and manufacturing standards of Australia, and has undergone testing, it does not meet the minimum standards set by Breville in its product manufacturing specifications,” said Breville Australia general manager Jeremy Sargeant.

“Breville takes safety and product quality very seriously and is working with retailers and consumers to facilitate the quick removal of recalled product from the market place.  This recall applies only to model BKE260.  No other kettles in the Breville range are affected.”

Consumers are advised to cease using the kettle immediately and return it to a Breville service agent to exchange it for a replacement kettle of similar value. Consumers are instructed not to dispose of the kettle.
