Camera House general manager, Charles Davey has expressed his disappointment that Gerry Gibbs Camera House was placed into voluntary administration last week. However, he announced that Camera House has opened a new store in the centre of Sydney on Pitt Street.
The store opened its doors two weeks ago but hosted a public grand opening on Thursday evening, attended by Appliance Retailer, with a number of ‘opening specials’ on a range of cameras, video cameras and accessories. The store is 130 square metres in size and employs seven staff.
Store owner Chris Tran told Appliance Retailer, “We consider this an important store for us being in the heart of Sydney. It is similar to other stores, in the fact that we support the major camera brands and accessories. The only difference is that we do not do printing in-store yet.”
“With the rain holding off, the grand opening was a major success. We had over 300 consumers come through the doors in the space of 3.5 hours, with quite a few interested in checking out the new store and photowalks held by Nikon, Canon and Olympus.
“Registration numbers had to be cut short due to the fact that store couldn’t physically handle the capacity. Finger food, nibblies, donuts and drinks were provided to everyone who walked through the door and were also given a gift bag of goodies as a celebration to the grand opening,” he said.
