Canon Oceania Group has published its 2024-26 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Canon’s Innovate RAP has been fully endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, a group that enables organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation.

Guided by its corporate philosophy, Kyosei, living and working together for the common good, and aligned with Reconciliation Australia’s goals, Canon continues its commitment to respect for cultures and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, in the form of its first Innovate RAP and its third RAP overall.

In Canon’s RAP journey so far, key activities include:

  • Collaborating with NPY Women’s Council and Australian Geographic to run a two-day photojournalism workshop in the Northern Territory with Anangu youth from remote Aboriginal communities
  • The addition of a First Nations category to the Canon Oceania Grants program
  • Ensuring at least 20% of the students supported through Canon’s Corporate Partnership with The Smith Family are First Nations-identifying
  • Collaboration with the BlakLens community to share content via Canon’s social media channels on the importance of protocols when it comes to capturing and working with First Nations content

Canon has worked, and will continue to work with communities, on identifying meaningful ways it can contribute to reconciliation that align with its core strengths and capabilities.

Supporting First Nations creators to tell their stories and educate the community on their cultures, along with its role as a corporate employer, are the tangible ways the Canon Oceania Group can contribute to reconciliation.
