LG is introducing its 97-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED M (model M3), the world’s first consumer TV with Zero Connect technology, a wireless solution capable of real-time video and audio transmission at up to 4K 120Hz.
Unlike conventional TVs where input ports for connecting external devices are located on the rear or sides, the M3 comes with a separate Zero Connect box, which can be placed away from the TV that sends video and audio signals wirelessly to the screen.
The box comes with multiple ports for plugging in commonly used HDMI devices, such as cable/satellite set-top boxes and gaming consoles. It can also connect wirelessly with compatible soundbars.
To ensure the seamless transfer of data from the box to the TV, LG developed an algorithm that identifies the optimal transmission path. The algorithm helps to minimise transmission errors or disruptions as it can recognise changes in the immediate environment such as people or pets moving around the room, and switch paths accordingly.
For enhanced signal strength, the box’s antenna can be easily rotated or tilted to align with the TV’s location. Zero Connect box is also voice recognition-enabled, allowing users to turn on and manage the LG M3 and connected devices using spoken commands.
Broader LG OLED TV line-up
Spearheading the 2023 LG OLED line-up are the latest Z3, G3 and C3 OLED evo series TVs providing high brightness and colour accuracy thanks to LG OLED evo technology and new α9 AI Processor Gen6.
The latest Alpha series processor utilises LG AI-assisted Deep Learning technology to deliver premium picture and sound quality. AI Picture Pro now offers improved upscaling for better clarity and enhanced dynamic tone mapping. AI Picture Pro also integrates a picture processing technology that detects and refines objects, such as people’s faces, to give them more lifelike HDR quality. In addition to fine-tuning image reproduction, the α9 AI Processor Gen6 powers the LG AI Sound Pro; a feature that delivers virtual 9.1.2 surround sound from the TVs’ built-in speaker system.
Another upgrade to this year’s OLED evo G3 series is LG Brightness Booster Max technology, which incorporates new light control architecture and light-boosting algorithms to increase brightness, which is mapped and controlled pixel-by-pixel, resulting in sharper images. The 2023 LG G3 OLED evo models also introduce a One Wall Design, leaving no visible gap when wall mounted.
Featuring the latest version of webOS, this year’s models present All New Home, a redesigned user interface (UI) that offers personalisation options. New ‘Quick Cards’ offer easy access to content and services grouped into categories such as Home Office, Gaming, Music, and Sports. In addition, AI Concierge provides each user with a curated list of content choices based on viewing habits and search inquiries.
LG OLED TVs continue to support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, as well as a range of features compliant to HDMI 2.1a. The TVs are the first to be certified by the HDMI organisation for Quick Media Switching VRR (QMS-VRR) that can eliminate the momentary ‘black screen’ that occurs when switching between content played from different source devices.
With gamers in mind, LG OLED TVs boast a 0.1 millisecond response time, low input lag and up to four HDMI2.1a compliant ports. LG OLED TVs are also equipped with the Game Optimiser, allowing users to quickly select and switch between gaming-specific features, such as game-genre display pre-sets.
