New laptops from Dell and its gaming subsidiary Alienware out now push portable PC power even further, with one configuration coming with an ultra-smooth 480Hz display.
Aimed at gamers who favour high performance, the Alienware m17 R5 (pictured above) is labelled by the company as the world’s most powerful 17-inch AMD Advantage laptop. It uses the AMD Ryzen 6000 series of processors and AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPU, including the impressive new RX 6850M XT 12GB GDDR6 graphics card.
Along with the new internals, select Alienware m17 R5 configurations offer a range of AMD Smart Technologies to drive extreme speeds and response times. Some of these technologies include SmartShift Max, which helps boost performance across gaming, rendering and content creation, in addition to FreeSync Premium to adapt the refresh rate for smooth gameplay.
Also joining the Alienware lineup is a new 480Hz display panel for the Alienware m17 R5 and x17 R2 laptops. The 1920 x 1080 display has a 3ms response time while allowing competitive gamers smooth gameplay. Both Nvidia G-Sync with Advanced Optimus, and AMD FreeSync technologies are compatible to reduce screen tearing at high frame rates. The display also supports Dolby Vision for strong HDR performance in addition to ComfortView Plus to reduce blue light exposure. As an alternative, a 3840 x 2160 120Hz display is another option for those who prefer visual quality over faster refresh rates.
Under the Dell banner is the new Dell G16 (pictured above), a gaming laptop with a 16-inch 2560 x 1600 165Hz display in a 15-inch chassis. Its 16:10 display provides 11% more screen real estate than the 16:9 display found in the G15. Powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H 14-core CPU, the G16 can include as much as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU for gaming on the go. One nice feature is the ability to choose from different keyboards, including a CherryMX ultra-low-profile mechanical keyboard.
All new Alienware and Dell products are rolling out locally in the coming days. The most powerful version of the Alienware m17 R5 will cost $5,799. Australian pricing for the Dell G16 will be confirmed soon.
