David Robinson will assume the role of group executive — marketing, financial services and customer innovation, effective immediately. The appointment follows the departure of Sacha Laing, who took on the newly created role of group executive — marketing and financial services in May 2012. Laing’s then promotion from within the business came after a company restructure that saw David Jones look to increase its focus on its American Express and store cards business.
According to a statement from David Jones today, the new role created for Robinson will combine “customer innovation” into the marketing and financial services portfolio, enabling David Jones to “leverage its management structure and resources and deliver a fully integrated and seamless customer interface”.
Speaking about the new appointment was David Jones CEO and managing director, Paul Zahra, who announced his own resignation at the end of last year after just over three years at the helm of the company.
“David Robinson has worked with David Jones for 14 years and has a detailed understanding of our business,” said Zahra. “He headed the implementation of the David Jones American Express card program from an operational perspective and has worked closely with our marketing team across all sales channels as part of our Omni Channel Retail strategy.”
The outgoing Sacha Laing has also worked within the David Jones management team for 14 years, joining the company as group planning manager in 2000, before taking roles in buying and merchandise management before his move to marketing and financial services.
Speaking about Laing’s departure, Zahra said, “We wish Sacha all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for his contribution”.
