Dell has announced the recall of Sony batteries sold for use in its notebooks.
The batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a risk of fire. This recall has been posted just three days after Hewlett Packard announced the recall of a large range of its notebook batteries.
The haphazard batteries were sent to consumers between 1 April 2004 and 18 July 2006. In addition to those included with notebook purchase, batteries received subsequent to service calls are also affected.
The batteries were sold for the following Dell model numbers:
-Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810, D530, D620ATG;
-Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705;
-Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90 XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710.
Customers are advised to look for the following phrases, which indicate their battery pack has a high chance of being affected:
-DELL,
-Made in Japan,
-Made in China,
-Battery cell made in Japan, Assembled in China,
-Assembled in Taiwan.
