A class action has commenced on behalf of Harvey Norman customers who were sold an extended warranty at the time of purchase between 17 September 2018 and 17 September 2024, either in store or online.

The extended warranties, called Product Care, are sold by Harvey Norman alongside the sale of goods such as televisions, computers and kitchen and laundry products.

Echo Law, which initiated the class action, says it is based on allegations that Product Care offered little or no value, because consumers were already guaranteed the same – or greater – rights under the Australian Consumer Law, for free.

“As such, we consider that Harvey Norman consumers who paid for Product Care should be entitled to compensation,” the Melbourne-based law firm said.

Customers who purchased a Product Care extended warranty in store or online from Harvey Norman, Domayne or Joyce Mayne, in Australia, between 17 September 2018 and 17 September 2024, may be eligible to participate as a group member in the class action.
