The Human Mobile Devices (HMD) Barbie Phone is now available in Telstra stores and online, designed to bring nostalgia and glam in the form of a retro flip phone. It now sits alongside the HMD Pulse+ smartphone launched earlier this year.
Commenting on the availability of the Barbie Flip Phone in Australia, HMD general manager for Australia and Oceania, Brenden Folitarik, said, “Launching into Telstra caps off a huge 2024 for HMD in Australia, where we have made a clear statement and introduced a wide range of feature-rich and incredible value-for-money devices that offer a real point of difference and alternative to Australian consumers.
“In particular, the HMD Barbie phone is turning heads and is the clear go-to accessory this summer. It’s all about ditching your smartphone at times when you just want less browsing and more fun, all with the help of a true cultural icon, Barbie.”
Developed in collaboration with the in-house design team at Mattel, the HMD Barbie Phone comes in a bold pink Barbie cover with two interchangeable back covers including the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie and vibrant Barbie ‘shooting heart’ design.
The device also comes with a set of stick-on crystals and retro Barbiestickers including flowers, flamingos and rainbows, for users to further customise their phone. A pastel beaded phone strap in hues of pink, yellow and blue, is adorned withphone charms inspired by the doll’s most iconic looks. It’s all packaged within a Barbie and HMD branded jewellery box.
The phone also incorporates a bespoke user interface including Barbiewallpapers and Barbieapp icons to support digital wellbeing including ‘digital balance tips’, ‘BarbieMeditation’ and ‘self-care reminders’ in settings.
The 0.3MP camera with torch delivers authentic Y2K style images plus a Barbie camera frame for pictures, while the battery delivers up to nine hours of talk time.
The HMD Barbie Phone from HMD is now available via Telstra in stores and online for RRP $199.
