Human Mobile Devices (HMD) has unveiled its entry into non-Terrestrial Network Communications with HMD OffGrid satellite technology. As 70% of Earth remains outside the reach of mobile networks, HMD seeks to integrate cellular and satellite grids for greater connectivity.
HMD OffGrid employs a reliable L Band satellite radio spectrum, allowing any Android or IOS device to connect directly to satellites for real-time location sharing, plus search and rescue features. The compact package provides 24/7 emergency response, three-day battery life and MIL-STD-810H military grade-durability.
The device weighs 60g and can fit in the palm of a hand for easy transportation and security. Users can stay connected while ‘off grid’ using the OffGrid app, which enables two-way messaging and live location tracking for five chosen recipients. It also includes a ‘check-in’ feature, allowing users to send pre-written messages to friends and family with the click of a button.
HMD OffGrid includes Overwatch x Rescue, a premium SOS service designed by FocusPoint International that includes 24/7 multi-lingual emergency response coordination and fully funded assistance for customers off the grid. Flexible subscription plans allow users to stay connected on any budget.
The HMD OffGrid can be set up using a QR code to activate the subscription plan. The OffGrid app is a smart interface to manage messages, share locations and activate SOS features.
Human Mobile Devices co-founder, chairman and CEO, Jean-Francis Baril said, “HMD OffGrid is a new, affordable, portable and easy-to-use offering that’s both empowering and reliable. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains or skiing off-piste, HMD OffGrid ensures you’re never truly off grid.”
