Messe Berlin, organisers of the leading consumer electronics and home appliances trade fair, IFA, have confirmed that the event will go ahead in 2020 but with a new concept due to a government ban on all events with more than 5,000 people until 24 October 2020.
IFA is scheduled to take place from 4 September to 10 September 2020.
Messe Berlin and gfu anticipated that the trade show could not go ahead as usual and for the last several weeks have been in discussions about alternative concepts.
Planning is well advanced for a concept that will allow IFA to deliver on its core functions – as a global showcase for technology innovation and an important meeting place for brands, manufacturers, retailers and media, according to the organisers, which claim that details of the updated concept will be presented in the “near future”.
gfu consumer and home electronics supervisory board chairman, Hans-Joachim Kamp said, “We expected this development given the constantly evolving pandemic and appreciate that we have now a clear regulatory framework that enables us, our partner Messe Berlin, and our exhibitor to make detailed plans for IFA 2020.”
