Smartphone and tablet case makers LifeProof have announced their new waterproof covers for the iPad mini with Retina display and iPad Air are now available in Australia, with features sure to please adventurous types.
The nüüd and frē cases both offer ‘four-proof protection’ from the elements — that is, they are waterproof, drop proof, dirt proof and snow proof — while still allowing users full interaction with the touch screen. Inside the cases the devices can withstand submersion in up to 2 metres of water for up to two hours, enabling underwater photography, and drops from as high as 1.2 metres.
Steve Nisbet, managing director of OtterBox Asia Pacific, the company which owns LifeProof said, “The cases are designed to protect and maximise the use of all the features the devices are known for including the high-quality resolution of the iPad mini with Retina and the sleek design of the iPad Air.”
Available in black or white, the cases have gone through independent lab testing to meet military standards for shock and impact protection with an IP68 rating against water and dirt intrusion. The cases have been engineered to complement features and functions of both the devices including speakers, volume controls, touch screen and camera.
LifeProof nüüd for iPad mini with Retina display, RRP $129.95, is the first waterproof case without a built-in screen protector. It features a patent-pending screenless technology that forms a waterproof seal between the case and device touch screen. An optional self-adhering screen guard is included to help provide additional protection from scratches.
The frē is available for both the iPad mini with Retina display and iPad Air for $109.95 and $119.95 respectively. The frē completely encases the device and covers the screen with a thin, transparent film to seal it from water, dirt and dust.
A removable shoulder strap is included with the case and additional accessories are available including a screen that doubles as a stand, a floating life jacket and a mounting cradle.
