Motorola has previewed the next generation razr smartphone, the razr 50 ultra, 20 years after the launch of the original RAZR V3.

Featuring the largest and most intelligent external display of any flip phone on the market, the 2024 razr enables new ways to interact, capture and create leveraging the power of AI.

For the first time, razr users will be able to access Google’s Gemini app directly from the external display. Easily press and hold the power button to activate Gemini and build a road trip itinerary, create a personalised workout routine, get recipes based on what’s in the refrigerator, and more.

Users will receive Gemini Advanced for three months with access to Google’s most capable AI models, at no extra cost. Consumers can also access 2TB of cloud storage and Gemini in Google apps including Gmail and Docs.

The motorola razr 50 ultra’s large four-inch external display provides access to apps and features including Google Photos for the first time, to share, view, delete, or favourite images and videos. There is also a dedicated Spotify panel to skip songs and a Bose panel to control Bose earbuds and headphones.

To customise the external display, users can choose from a selection of new clock faces, create their own screensaver or leverage moto ai experiences including Style Sync, which develops wallpaper options based on an outfit or pattern and Magic Canvas to generate an image based on a text prompt.

The motorola razr 50 ultra is more durable with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to help protect the external display from drops and scratches, underwater protection to withstand submersion in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes, and a simplified hinge offers better dust protection.

Thanks to the revamped hinge, it’s also easier for users to flick open to the 6.9-inch pOLED display or snap the device shut with one hand.

Flex View positions allows users to get more creative with photography. Snap an outfit of the day with the hands-free capture or record a skyline in shake-free camcorder mode. Photo Booth is now available on the external and internal cameras, stitching together four photos in collage format.

The new motorola razr 50 ultra camera system features a 50MP main camera system with moto ai camera capabilities and Google Photos AI-powered editing features. With the 50MP telephoto lens, users can take advantage of the two times optical zoom.

The motorola razr 50 ultra is one of the world’s first flip phones to come with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, promising accelerated performance, unparalleled connectivity, fast-paced gameplay, and better content capture. Its 4,000mAh battery offers 15W wireless and 5W reverse charging capabilities.

In the coming months, Motorola will introduce new moto ai features including ‘Catch me up’ which provides a prioritised summary of personal communications, ‘Pay attention’ that enables instant recording of conversations or speakers, automatically transcribing and summarising them, while ‘Remember this’ captures live moments or on-screen information.
