TV predictions in time for August Games.

2nds World owner, Peter Hammerman admits that these Games are not presenting the same excitement compared to previous years.

“The Olympics always increases sales on large screen TVs and recording devices. Although I am not feeling the buzz of enthusiasm for these Olympics to date, perhaps when it gets closer to the event, there will be more excitement,” he said.

WA-based retailer, David Dorsett-Lynn is expecting an increase in sales, but not as much as previous years.

“The Olympics will have some effect but not as much as we always think. There has been a long period of upgrade to digital and new technology so the impact of the Olympics is less,” he said.

However, the manager at Taree Leading Appliances located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Peter Bolte is far more optimistic about the impact of the Olympics on TV sales.

“It would seem that we are about to enter into a perfect storm. Suppliers are anxiously awaiting new models and technologies to arrive into the country. The ensuing grab for market share coupled with the Olympics has the potential to drive massive turnover dollars back into the category as the demand for bigger screen size escalates.”
