Panasonic Australia has today recalled the rechargeable battery pack for the CF-H2 Toughbook tablets. This recall has been effected after it was discovered that, “the rechargeable battery pack may overheat and cause smoke, or ignite posing a fire or burn hazard”, according to the ACCC’s Product Recall website.
The full model number for the recalled product is CF-VZSU53AW. The manufacturing lot numbers are: B6NA, B6YA, B71A, B74A, B75A, B76A, B7CA, B7VA, B83A, BBGA, BBHA, BBJA and BBWA.

This tablet was sold nationally by two Panasonic Toughbook distributors, J Mills Distribution and Multi Media Technology, between 1 June 2011 and 31 May 2012.
Consumers who think they may be affected are advised to immediately turn off their Toughbook and check to see if contains the above model number and manufacturing lot numbers.
“Remove the battery (normally two per tablet) and only use the tablet with the AC Adapter and power cord from the mains power until the battery is replaced,” advises the ACCC.
