Panasonic has announced its new G Series compact system camera the Lumix DMC-GF7 will be available in late February 2015 for RRP $699 (single lens kit) and RRP $999 (twin lens kit).
The Japanese company has focused on providing product features to aid the most prevalent contemporary photography trend: selfies.
“The DMC-GF7 is so much fun. It makes it easy to capture high quality photos of family and friends, and with the new flip screen users can take their best ever selfie,” said Doug Campbell senior product manager, Lumix Panasonic Australia.
The Lumix DMC-GF7 has a 3-inch 1040K-dot touch control monitor that flips 180 degrees. Flipping the LCD monitor up automatically activates ‘Self Shot Mode’ which provides a range of hands-free options for taking photos. For example, Face Shutter triggers the shutter after you wave your hand in front of your face, useful for when the camera is out of reach, and Buddy Shutter triggers the shutter when the camera detects two faces next to each other. These modes can be set to take the photo immediately or after a three or 10 second countdown.
The camera has 22 filter effects and a ‘Defocusing’ mode that uses a shallow depth of field to keep the subject’s face in focus and blur the background.
The ‘Jump Snap’ feature cleverly turns the subject’s smartphone into a remote control. The acceleration sensor on a smartphone detects the highest point of a jump, and releases the camera shutter via Wi-Fi and the Panasonic Image App.
With the Panasonic App the user can control almost every setting remotely via their smartphone — focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
For video, the Lumix GF7 records in Full HD 1920 x 1080 50p videos in AVCHD or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with stereo sound. The camera also supports 1080/24p native mode with 24 Mbps in AVCHD format. Other video features include Time Lapse Shot and Stop Motion Animation.
