Recalled due to software issue.

Select Panasonic Toughbook laptops, distributed by Multi Media Technology, have been recalled due to a software configuration issue with the battery pack discharge which causes the battery to potentially overheat. This may cause smoke, potentially leading to a fire hazard.

Affected models include CF-AX Series, CF-C2 Series and CF-SX Series. The laptops were sold nationally between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2016 through authorised Panasonic Business distributors.

Consumers should check the laptop battery pack to determine if there is any excessive heat and adjust the charging control utility to Eco Mode. Panasonic will release new configuration software on 12 June 2018 for the laptops.

In a statement supplied to Appliance Retailer, the company said, “At Panasonic Australia, the safety of our customers is paramount. We have notified our distributors and resellers regarding the affected units and advised customers of the actions to be taken.

“We have provided a series of immediate steps to help customers configure their battery pack power usage, which has been made available on the Panasonic Australia website at http://toughbook-au.panasonic.com.au/battery-safety-notice-ax-c2-sx-series

“For further information, customers can contact Panasonic on 1800 700 006 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm AEST) or via email at Toughbook-recall@au.panasonic.com.”
