Canstar Blue has announced the winners of its 2014 television survey, for the first time splitting the category into three divisions — LCD, LED and 3D TVs — to help consumers make a more informed decision about the TV technology driving their purchase decision.
Sony, LG and Samsung topped one division each, with just over 1,000 people who bought a new flat screen TV in the last 2 years surveyed.
For LCD TVs, LG took out the honours, having the most satisfied customers overall and receiving five stars across all categories. Last year LG was awarded Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers Award – Televisions.
Sony finished with Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers Award for LED TVs, receiving five stars for overall satisfaction, performance (e.g. picture and sound quality), ease of use and value for money.
Samsung has the most satisfied customers in the 3D TV category, receiving five stars for overall satisfaction and value for money. Sony was close behind, receiving five stars for picture/sound quality and ease of use.
The survey found that 45 per cent of the respondents bought a TV larger than 50 inches and for 43 per cent the energy rating of a TV was a major factor in their purchase decision.
According to the survey, 30 per cent download TV content rather than waiting for it to be broadcast and 64 per cent think overseas-produced content takes too long to reach Australian screens.
