Sony has announced the winners of the fourth annual Catchlight Film Festival, which recognises filmmakers from Australia and New Zealand who tell their stories with a Sony camera.

Sony Digital Imaging head of Australia and New Zealand, Jun Yoon said the festival, now in its fourth year, “continues to uncover amazing new talent, gifted in telling stories that move people”.

It was held at the iconic White Bay Power Station in Sydney along with the Sony Alpha photo competition.

Catchlight fiction winner, Die Bully Die by Nick & Nathan Lacey is about a high school bully; a documentary about a family tragedy, DAD by Jones Riley, was the non-fiction winner; Queen of Sin by Cameron Zayec about guards bringing in male sacrifices took out the music video award while student fiction winner, The Great South by Ormsby Taniora, follows two friends navigating the tough streets of South Auckland. The cinematic social winner Japan – Lost by Elliott Sauvage was set in Japan in the 2024 summer.

Sony also announced the winners of its annual Sony Alpha Awards that acknowledged amateur and professional photographers from Australia and New Zealand, with over 2,600 images submitted this year.

Sony camera gear valued at $54,000 was awarded at the 2024 awards, including $4,000 in Sony digital imaging equipment per category with the grand prize winner, Ben Sowry taking away $10,000 worth of Sony camera gear.
