Sunbeam has recalled the Café Espresso II coffee machine, model EM3820, sold nationally between February 2013 and March 2014.
The recall notice states, “The movement of the milk-frothing wand may cause abrasion of wiring inside the machine, resulting in failure of installation”, which could cause electric shocks.
The models being recalled have the following three-digit production codes on the label: 033, 103, 113, 153, 293 and 323.
According to the ACCC recall notice the machines were sold at Myer, Harvey Norman, Harris Scarf, David Jones, Bing Lee, Betta Electrical, Retravision and other smaller retailers.
Sunbeam apologised for the recall saying, “Sunbeam Corporation sets itself exceptionally high standards in terms of quality and safety and sincerely apologises for the inconvenience this recall may cause”.
Consumers should stop using the machine, unplug it from the wall and contact Sunbeam by phone on 1300 882 570 for more information and assistance. Sunbeam will issue a replacement machine of similar value free of charge.
