As it does not comply with safety standards.
The Sunbeam Aeroglide Rapid SR6370 iron has been recalled as the single layer of insulation between the wiring and the top of the iron is non-compliant with Australian Safety Standards. This poses possible risk of electric shock.
Owners are advised to stop using the iron and return it to Sunbeam for a full refund or higher value replacement product.
The iron was sold nationally between 11 January, 2017 and 30 June, 2017 in BSR, David Jones, Harris Scarfe, Harvey Norman, Narta, The Good Guys, Sunbeam Australia outlets and the Sunbeam Australia website.
Sunbeam Australia provided the following statement to Appliance Retailer.
“At Sunbeam, we are committed to providing our consumers with innovative, high-quality products that enhance their lives. As part of our continuous efforts to improve our products, we conducted a routine quality compliance review of the Aeroglide Rapid Iron SR6370. We identified that a limited batch of the Aeroglide Rapid Irons, sold exclusively in Australia and New Zealand, did not meet our quality and safety standards. This is an isolated issue that only impacts Aeroglide Rapid model number SR6370, type 1128 2000 – 2400W, with the date code 5216. No other date codes are affected. The product poses no immediate safety threat to consumers and there have been no consumer complaints or incidents.
“As soon as we identified the issue, we notified local authorities and suspended the distribution of the affected products. As a precautionary measure, we are issuing a voluntary product recall in Australia and New Zealand. We encourage consumers who purchased the Aeroglide Rapid Iron, to return the product to Sunbeam for a full refund or a higher valued product replacement. The model number, type and date code can be found on the white rating label on the heel of the iron.
