Dick Smith and the consumer electronics division at Woolworths has experienced a solid sales growth for the half year leading up to 4 January 2009, this comes after the Dick Smith brand launched various new initiatives over the period including a new format and several store openings.
In the past six months, Dick Smith has seen a 9.1 per cent increase in sales to $838.9 million and comparable store sales increases of 5.8 per cent.
Over the period Dick Smith has been busy introducing a new format store in addition to improving its range of products available to the consumer.
A new price promise was also created of “best price and you’ll pay no more for the right advice” and a rollout of a more contemporary logo and signage was introduced across the business.
An extended focus has also been put towards improving recruitment and increasing staff skill with training programs.
According to the Woolworths half yearly report, Dick Smith opened 29 Dick Smith Electronics stores and three Powerhouse stores during the half, taking the total number of stores to 433.
The report also outlined that 79 new format stores will be open across the country by the end of the financial year.
