HTC VIVE has announced that its VIVE Ultimate Tracker is now compatible with third-party PCVR headsets that support SteamVR, bringing enhanced tracking capability to more users.

Originally designed for VIVE Focus 3 and VIVE XR Elite, VIVE Ultimate Tracker now allows gamers and developers to take their VR experiences to the next level, no matter the headset they choose.

The VIVE Ultimate Tracker is a state-of-the-art VR accessory designed to enable object and full-body tracking, ensuring greater immersion and interactivity in virtual worlds. Whether for gaming, dancing, motion capture, professional training, or simulations, the Ultimate Tracker opens up possibilities by accurately tracking body movements and external objects.

VIVE Ultimate Tracker has two cameras onboard, and essentially tracks its own position without the need for any external tracking devices or base stations.

Earlier this year, HTC VIVE launched a beta program to test compatibility with other SteamVR-supported headsets. Community feedback has been essential in improving both the UX and performance of the Ultimate Tracker when used with third-party devices such as the Meta Quest series.

Beta testers helped fine-tune tracking precision, overall connectivity, and ease of use, ensuring a seamless experience for all.

With the official release, the VIVE Ultimate Tracker can now be used with SteamVR-compatible headsets like Meta Quest 3. This means Quest users can now experience object tracking and body tracking in Steam.
