UnderCurrent thinks today might just be the day for Harvey Norman employees to be asking for a pay rise, with the company’s co-founder and chairman Gerry Harvey being named on the BRW Rich Bosses List for 2013.

The vocal veteran of the retail industry even made it to the top five, edging up two places from last year thanks to a boost in his company’s share prices. BRW lists Harvey’s wealth as $818.2 million — a significant increase from his $643 million executive wealth in the previous year — but paltry by comparison to Australia’s very own Rich Uncle Pennybags, Richard Murdoch.

For those counting their pennies at home hoping to match Mr Murdoch, the News Corporation head is worth more than $9 billion.

But while Wendy Deng is certainly a formidable partner for Murdoch, she’s no Katie Page — Gerry’s wife and the CEO of Harvey Norman was one of just three women to make the rich bosses list.

UnderCurrent doffs its hat to all the Harvey Norman franchisees out there — they certainly deserve a bit of credit for their time at the coal face making Harvey Norman one of Australia’s most successful companies.
